Nucli programs

MNodes comes with 73 programs for the Nucli node, ready to play: effects, instruments and generators, each one a small program you can open, read and change. They come with the Factory content and are in the Nucli section of the Explorer, in the strip at the left.

  • Drag one onto the graph for a Nucli node that plays it, or onto a Nucli node to put it in place of what that node plays.
  • The Code and Patch tabs on the node show how it is made. Change it, and Save it with a name of your own: the one that came with MNodes stays as it was.
  • Each setting below is a row in the Inspector and a pin on the node, which takes a value or a CV, so a knob, an LFO or an envelope can move it.

How they are wired:

  • Effects take the sound into In 1 and In 2 (left and right) and give it out of Out 1 and Out 2. For a mono sound, wire it into both inputs.
  • Oscillators and Generators have no sound in: they play by themselves out of Out 1 and Out 2.
  • Instruments play from MIDI: wire a MIDI In into MIDI To CV, then its Note Number into note, its Gate into gate and its Velocity into velocity.
  • wet, where a program has it, is how much of what it does you hear: at 0 you hear only the sound as it came in.

Resonators

Whatever comes in rings in a key.

Chord Resonators

Six resonators on a chord that moves on by itself: every few beats the next chord of the key (I, vi, IV, V), its notes over two octaves. A drum loop or a noise rings in a progression.

SettingRangeDefault
root36 to 7248A MIDI note: 48 is C3
mode0 to 600 major, 1 dorian, 2 phrygian, 3 lydian, 4 mixolydian, 5 minor, 6 locrian
bpm40 to 200100
beats1 to 328How long each chord lasts
decay0.1 to 61.5Seconds
wet0 to 10.6

Resonator Bank

Rings at a note and its harmonics, as strings tuned to it would: whatever comes in turns into a tone. A limiter on the rings keeps a note that matches from running away.

SettingRangeDefault
note24 to 8448A MIDI note: 48 is C3
decay0.05 to 101.5Seconds for a ring to die away
brightness0 to 10.5How strong the upper harmonics are
odd0 to 101: odd harmonics only, a hollow tone
wet0 to 10.6

Scale Resonators

Eight resonators on the notes of a scale: drums, noise or a voice played through ring in that key. chord 0: the scale's eight notes from the root; 1: stacked in thirds, two octaves.

SettingRangeDefault
root36 to 7248A MIDI note: 48 is C3
mode0 to 600 major, 1 dorian, 2 phrygian, 3 lydian, 4 mixolydian, 5 minor, 6 locrian
chord0 to 10
decay0.1 to 82Seconds
brightness0 to 10.6
wet0 to 10.6

Textures

What comes in, turned into slow washes and clouds.

Granular Cloud

A cloud of short pieces of what you play, from the last few seconds, some an octave or a fifth up or down: shimmering, glassy textures that follow what comes in. Six at a time.

SettingRangeDefault
size0.02 to 0.50.12Seconds per piece
spread0.05 to 2.50.6How far back the pieces come from, in seconds
pitch0 to 10.4How many go up or down an octave or a fifth
width0 to 10.8
wet0 to 10.5

Spectral Blur

The sound smeared over time, frequency by frequency: each one fades in and out slowly, a soft, dreamy wash that keeps the notes. The sound as it was is held back to stay with it.

SettingRangeDefault
blur0 to 0.990.85
wet0 to 10.6

Superstretch

What comes in, stretched many times slower without its pitch changing, into a slow, moving wash, as Paulstretch does: four overlapping pieces read from a slow head, each at its own speed, then every frequency's phase scattered. hold stops listening and goes on stretching what is there, round and round.

SettingRangeDefault
stretch1 to 508
size0.05 to 10.3Seconds: how long each piece is
smear0 to 11How much the phases are scattered
hold0 to 10
wet0 to 11

Reverbs

Rooms, halls, plates and springs, and reverbs that go on.

Freeze Reverb

A long reverb that can hold: turn hold up and the tail stops fading and stops listening, an endless pad of the moment held. Eight lines mixed into one another evenly.

SettingRangeDefault
hold0 to 10
time0.5 to 203Seconds for the tail to fall 60 dB, when not held
damping0 to 0.80.3
wet0 to 10.4

Hall Reverb

A large hall: eight delay lines that feed back into one another through one even mix, each a little darker every time round; time is how long the tail takes to fall by 60 dB.

SettingRangeDefault
time0.3 to 82.2Seconds
size0.5 to 1.51
damping0 to 0.90.4
predelay0 to 0.10.02Seconds

Plate Reverb

A plate reverb after Jon Dattorro's design: the sound spread by four allpasses, then round a figure-eight tank that keeps it alive, read at fourteen places for the two sides.

SettingRangeDefault
predelay0 to 0.20.01Seconds
decay0 to 0.950.6
damping0 to 0.950.4
size0.5 to 11
wet0 to 10.3

Shimmer Reverb

A reverb whose tail rises: each time round, part of it goes up an octave (a phase vocoder, so the octave is in tune), for a shining, organ-like halo above what you play. Four lines mixed into one another evenly.

SettingRangeDefault
decay0.3 to 0.950.85
shimmer0 to 10.5How much goes up an octave each time round
damping0 to 0.90.3

size0.5 to 21
damping0 to 0.90.4

SettingRangeDefault
decay0 to 0.920.7
drip0.2 to 0.850.6How far the highs run ahead of the lows
tone1500 to 80004000
wet0 to 10.35

Delays

Echoes, and tricks played with time.

Beat Repeat

Catches a slice of the beat and repeats it while repeat is on: stutters, rolls and glitches. The slice is what plays from the moment repeat goes on, beats long (0.25 a sixteenth, 0.5 an eighth); each repeat may be quieter than the last.

SettingRangeDefault
bpm40 to 200120
beats0.0625 to 10.25
repeat0 to 10
decay0.3 to 11How loud each repeat is against the last

Ducking Delay

An echo that steps back while you play and comes forward in the gaps, so it never clouds what you play.

SettingRangeDefault
time0.05 to 1.50.38

wow0 to 10.3How much the tape wavers
tone500 to 120003500
wet0 to 10.3

Tape Stop

The tape slows to a halt while stop is on, its pitch falling with it, and spins back up from where it stopped when stop is off, then joins what is playing now.

SettingRangeDefault
stop0 to 10
time0.05 to 40.8Seconds to stop, and to start again

Tempo Echo

An echo in time with the music: set the tempo and how many beats apart the repeats are.

voice2-12 to 127
level10 to 10.5
level20 to 10.5

gap0.002 to 0.030.012Seconds late
wet0 to 10.5

Pitch Shifter

The pitch moved up or down by some semitones, the speed kept, chords and all: each frequency found and moved (a phase vocoder, its phases locked to each note's peak). It plays a frame (43 ms) late, which MNodes makes up for; the sound as it was waits as long, to be mixed in.

SettingRangeDefault
semitones-24 to 2412
wet0 to 10.4

Sub Octave

An octave below what you play, as the classic pedals make it: a square wave that flips on every other cycle of the note, at the note's level, smoothed. One note at a time.
