Preset Library
The Library is where all your presets live: factory presets, your own saved patches, Hub downloads, and anything shared with you. Open it by clicking the preset name at the top of the window: the Preset Browser pops up over the workspace.

How presets are organised
MNodes keeps presets in two main places:
- User library: your personal presets, node presets, subgraphs, modules and Hub downloads. Lives under your Music folder by default (
~/Music/Mario Nieto/MNodes/Library). - Project folders: an optional second location where you can keep presets tied to a specific project. Useful for DAW project bundles or for syncing a set of patches via Dropbox/iCloud.
Both locations are scanned at startup, and the Library shows everything merged together.
Setting the paths
Open Settings → General (the Library Folders block) to see and change the folder locations:
- User: the root of your personal library (set once, used always).
- Projects: optional extra root for project-specific presets.
Use the folder icon to pick a new path. Changes take effect immediately: the Library rescans automatically.
What lives inside
Inside your library root you'll find subfolders for each type of content:
| Folder | Contents |
|---|---|
| Presets | Full patches (.mnprt) |
| NodePresets | Saved state of a single node (.mnnpreset) |
| Subgraphs | Shared subgraph files (.mnsubgraph) |
| Modules | Shared module files (.mnmod) |
| Samples | Audio samples used by sampler/player nodes |
You don't have to create these by hand: MNodes creates them on first use.
Browsing the Library
The browser shows your presets as artwork cards or as a compact list: switch with the Cards / List toggle at the top right. The top bar also has a search field and a sort dropdown, and the Size slider at the bottom sets the card size or row height.
The left rail decides what you see:
- Hub, at the top: the online MNodesHub catalog, browsable without leaving the app.
- Library: All Presets, Favorites, and Recent.
- Collections: your own groups. Click + to create one, then drag presets onto a collection to file them.
- Bundles: installed bundles.
- Type and Category: filter by Instruments / Audio FX / MIDI Effects, or by musical category.
On a preset you can:
- Double-click to load it.
- Click the heart on a card to add it to your favourites.
- Right-click for Load, Show Info, Add to Favorites, Duplicate, Export, Show in Finder / Explorer, Edit Info, or Delete (factory presets are read-only).
The browser remembers its state for the session: scroll position, search text, sort order, view, size and the selected rail section. Close it and reopen it and you land right back where you left off.
Refreshing
Most file changes are picked up automatically. If something doesn't appear after an external change, click the Rescan button at the right of the search field: the scan runs again and the cache is rebuilt.
How the scan works
- On startup, MNodes walks the User and Projects folders and builds an index.
- The index is cached so the Library opens instantly on subsequent launches.
- Adding, moving, or deleting presets inside MNodes updates the index live.
- External changes (files dropped from Finder, for example) are picked up by Refresh or on next startup.
Tips
- Keep your Projects folder on shared storage (Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive) to follow your presets across machines.
- Organise with subfolders if you like: the scan finds presets anywhere inside the library folders.
- Import
.mnprtbundles by dragging them onto the MNodes window, or with File → Import.
